Conservation in action! This is the story about Sylvester, Fielies, Angel and Nika.
These are the four special lions who make up the Sylvester pride. Each one had little hope of survival, but we now celebrate their survival, successful integration into nature and their contribution to the circle of life as both lionesses became mothers in 2018. This is a beautiful example of a rare conservation success story and one we need to hear more of if we are to ensure the future of Africa’s wild lions.
Angel and Nika were raised from cubs by reserve manager Gerhard de Lange, using only his vehicle and no human touch. Amazingly, Mother Nature proved us correct and their instincts kicked in, and they successfully had their own cubs in 2018. The cubs were later moved off the Reserve in 2020. Sylvester and Fielies went on to form a coalition after Sylvester was moved to Kuzuko Lodge.
This video is a snapshot of their survival story and the Kuzuko conservation in action.
