Karoo Cuisine

No great experience is complete without great food and for us it’s one of the central pillars of the Kuzuko experience. Laurenzo Pieterson, our Executive Chef, is always looking for new and innovative ways to delight our guests with his modern twist on traditional South African cuisine, whether it be a romantic private breakfast on our secluded sunrise deck, enjoying our famous high tea with a view, sampling a traditional South African braai under the stars in our bush boma, or experiencing our full five course gourmet dinner in our restaurant.

Wherever possible we use local produce and support our local farmers – whether that be succulent Karoo lamb from the farm next door or our very own home-grown herbs.

Wildlife

The Kuzuko experience is all about connecting with nature and marvelling at all its interconnected complexities from the world’s largest land mammal, the African elephant, to the smallest details, like the African dung beetle – all of which play a vital role in keeping our ecosystem healthy and functioning.

As the only lodge on our 35,000 acre private reserve we have one of the lowest guest densities of any private reserves in South Africa and Kuzuko guests can enjoy intimate, unrushed and ethical wildlife encounters with our experienced and knowledgeable guides.

Conservation

Conservation lies at the heart of the Kuzuko project and we are always seeking new ways to push the boundaries – from bringing elephants back to the land for the first tim in 150 years, to undertaking the largest spekboom reforestation project to date with 26 million cuttings planted over 18 months.

Community

Kuzuko began as an intentional social enterprise with the explicit aim of creating jobs in a region of very high unemployment and limited opportunities; inclusivity is hard wired into our DNA. Staying at Kuzuko plays a vital role in creating jobs and giving back to local communities whilst also supporting conservation.
