When you think of a safari getaway to Kuzuko Lodge, images of thrilling game drives, spotting the Big 5 and soaking up the vast expanse of the Karoo plains may come to mind. (And this will certainly be the case!)

But, what if we told you that the best way to truly immerse yourself in nature, enhance your sense of well-being and feel closer to the environment around you is by exploring it on foot?

Only on foot, away from the rumble of the vehicle, can we engage all of our senses in the bush. Every breeze, rustle and footstep takes on additional significance as we allow ourselves to be guided by the landscape’s gentle contours.

At Kuzuko Lodge, we offer two nature walks down in our Hopewell walking area that we encourage our guests to incorporate into their safari experiences itinerary.

Simply pack your walking shoes and allow nature to do the rest.

Safari Experiences: Reconnect with Nature

Our Guided Nature Walks and Self-Guided Hikes give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with our beautiful Karoo biome. They are also a great way to stretch the legs and burn off some of our chef’s delicious food!

Here’s how both experiences help you disconnect from the stress of everyday life and reconnect with yourself amid the pristine beauty of the Greater Addo Conservation Area.

1. Guided Nature Walks

Let’s start with our guided nature walks…

During this experience, you will be led through the tranquil Hopewell section of our reserve. This portion of veld falls outside of the main game reserve and is not home to any large predators or dangerous wildlife.

Walking offers you a whole new perspective on our surrounding landscape and allows you to focus on its finer details, like the tactile nature of our diverse succulent community.

As you go along, our experienced guides will help unlock the wonder of the Karoo biome for you, like the intricacy of an antlion trap! They also know the best pathways along which to drink in this region’s views, as well as the most scenic resting spots.

One of the highlights of our guided walks is the chance you’ll have to encounter the resident giraffes. These elegant creatures are a frequent sight in Hopewell, and there’s something particularly special about meeting them on foot.

2. Self-Guided Hikes

If you prefer a more independent adventure, Kuzuko’s self-guided hikes provide the perfect opportunity for exactly that. There are several old farm tracks to explore in the Hopewell walking area that are largely flat and can be made into a 2 – 5km walk. It’s a great way to spend some relaxing time in nature while exploring at your own pace.

We also have big plans for new hikes being developed over the next two years, so watch this space!
